Sister Cities Cacabelos and Torano Nuovo Foster Cultural Exchange
The sister cities of Cacabelos, Spain, and Torano Nuovo, Italy, have strengthened their cultural ties through a vibrant exchange program involving schoolchildren from both towns. This initiative, aimed at promoting cross-cultural understanding and European unity, has become a cornerstone of their twinning relationship.
A Summer of Shared Experiences
From July 5 to July 17, a group of children from Cacabelos, accompanied by local Councillor for Education María Jesús Martínez, traveled to Torano Nuovo for an immersive cultural experience. Hosted by Italian families, the young participants had the opportunity to explore local life, bond with their peers, and engage in enriching activities.
Highlights of the program included visits to iconic Italian landmarks such as Rome, the ruins of Pompeii, and the Reggia di Caserta, the former residence of the Spanish Bourbons during the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. In addition to cultural exploration, the children enjoyed beach outings and various sports activities, creating lasting memories and friendships.
Building the Europe of the Future
The exchange program is designed to foster a sense of European identity and unity among the next generation. According to the organizers, the program helps participants understand the value of cultural diversity and shared history.
Key goals:
- Promoting cross-cultural understanding between Spanish and Italian families.
- Encouraging young participants to explore their European heritage.
- Providing educational experiences through cultural and historical site visits.
- Building lifelong connections between the children of both cities.
The program is partially funded by the Cacabelos City Council, covering more than half of the costs. Local leaders emphasize the importance of such initiatives in shaping a well-connected and collaborative Europe.
Torano Nuovo Children Visit Cacabelos
The exchange program works in both ways. Following the visit to Italy, young residents of Torano Nuovo will travel to Cacabelos on July 17. During their stay, they will be hosted by Spanish families and enjoy a variety of activities, including cultural tours, sports, and local festivities.
This ongoing collaboration between the two cities has become a significant driver of cultural and social enrichment, highlighting the value of international partnerships.
Strengthening Ties
The twinning of Cacabelos and Torano Nuovo demonstrates the power of community-level initiatives in fostering international bonds. By connecting families and communities, the exchange program serves as a model for promoting cultural understanding, shared heritage, and unity in a diverse Europe.
Through programs like this, the sister cities continue to inspire a stronger, more interconnected Europe, building bridges that go beyond borders.
